Knot At Sea - Our First Journey

Day 1 - Headed for Fort Myers Beach
June 11, 2015

We started out early Thursday morning around 9am, the motor home packed and ready for our first outing. We have reservations at Red Coconut RV Resort on Ft Myers Beach. The Grandkids were asking every 10 minutes, “are we there yet"?

Our route took us West on SR 80 to Belleglade, South Bay, Clewiston and LaBelle around the South side of Lake Okeechobee. We arrived in Ft Myers around Noon at stopped at a Super Walmart to provision for our 3 days camping at the beach. After a quick bite to eat at McDonalds, we headed to Red Coconuts and checked in, parked the RV in our assigned spot and hooked up.

We finally got settled in and hit the beach, just 50 yards from our campsite. The water was warm in the shallow waters of the Gulf of Mexico and Preston & Mikayla floated on their boogy boards with Nana.

Back to our home on wheels, we all took showers and cleaned up to go next door to a bar & grill for dinner. The Junkanoo was right on the beach, what a view. We ordered pizza and drinks and enjoyed life on the beach.

After dinner we walked out to the beach to catch sunset, but it was obscured by clouds. The Grandkids rode their bikes on the beach showing us their riding skills. Mikayla practiced her cartwheels in the sand.

It was getting late so we settled in for a good nights sleep, looking forward to a full day of activities tomorrow.

Day 2 - Bike Ride to the Fort Myers Beach Fishing Pier
Friday, June 12, 2015

We all got up early and made breakfast, then hopped on our bicycles and headed North along the beach road to the Fort Myers Beach Fishing Pier area that they call Times Square.  Lots of restaurants and t-shirt shops in this area to spend your money.  After that mile and a half bike ride in the hot Summer sun, we had to have some ice cream at the DQ right at the entrance to the pier.

The Grand kids wanted to walk out on the pier, I think they spotted a souvenir shop along the way, so we stopped in and bought a few items for them to remember being there.

There were a lot of fishermen catching small fish, but we didn't see anything worth eating.  It was a great view of Fort Myers Beach from the end of the pier and we spent some time taking in the beautiful view.

Then back on the bikes for a steamy ride back to the camp site to get in some beach time and hamburgers on the grill.

A late afternoon thunderstorm blew up off the Gulf and chased us back to the RV, but it cleared up pretty quick and we lit the charcoal grill for some good old fashioned cheeseburgers in paradise.  Mikayla wanted Smores of course.

The evening was wrapping up with what looked like a beautiful sunset, so we took our beach chairs out and setup to enjoy the sun sinking down through the golden sky.

That topped off the first full day at Red Coconuts RV Park right on the beach.

It doesn't get any better than this.

Day 3 - Venturing Out
Saturday, June 13, 2015

Today we decided to venture out and explore Sanibel & Captiva Island so after having bacon and egg McPrestons for breakfast,we rented a car from Enterprise. Packed it up with the beach chairs, ice chest, boogie boards and headed north. The drive over the causeway was very pretty. Reminded me of the days we spent on Rickenbacher Causeway in Miami.  Sanibel was very pretty with beautiful homes, lots of restaurants and cool beachy shops.  On to Captiva Island where we stopped for lunch at The Bubble Room.

Brent and I had eaten there when we were over this way for an anniversary one year so we knew we would have to take grandkids there ! The restaurant is so cool. Decorated with everything you can think of! Antique toys games etc etc from 20’s, 30’s, 40’s ….pictures of old time movies stars everywhere. Working trains on all three levels. One room is a Christmas room with everything you can imagine. Their motto is “Everyday is Day is Christmas at the Bubble Room”! Lunch was good and kids really enjoyed it!
We headed south on Captiva and went to Bowmans Park for a dip in the ocean ! Park is very pretty but a hike to the beach. But worth it! Reminded me of John D McArthur State Park on Singer Island. Mikayla and I went shelling and found a bucket full treasures! On our way back we stopped at DQ for an ice cream treat!

Back to Red Coconuts to shower and get ready to go out to dinner but before we left, we officially Christened the RV. Our neighbors Liz and Bill and their friends joined us for a toast while we poured a bottle of Champagne over the front of RV and officially named it “Knot At Sea”!

Then the 4 of us went onto dinner at Nervous Nellies which sits right on the waterway on Ft Myers Beach! Nice view, good food and drinks! Since Preston and Mikayla won’t be here for Brent’s Birthday we sang Happy Birthday as we shared a piece of Key Lime Pie.

They bought him a T shirt from there for his bday to remember the occasion. Drove over to “Times Square” to do a little more shopping . Kids bought their dads t shirts and Preston a gift for Keith for Fathers Day. They also each bought a shirt for themselves . Big day and all were tired so back to RV to get some shut eye!

Day 4 - Headed Home
Sunday, June 14, 2015

Check out time at 11:00 am so kids had quick bowl of cereal , we had our coffee then we all pitched in on packing up camp site . Said our goodbyes to friends we met. Exchanged emails and phone numbers then checked out and dropped off rental car. Quick stop at Walmart to grab a bite to eat at McDonalds. Headed for home sweet home ! The weekend was great and I do think we are going to enjoy many more fun RV adventures! Looking forward to sharing the experience with family and friends !
